MacNab
Stag. Grouse. Salmon. All In One Day.
The challenge is simple, but very tall; land a salmon, put a grouse in the bag, and take a red stag off the hill…all between dawn and dusk on the same day. Success requires planning, perseverance, fitness, skill, and a healthy dose of luck. And one needs a team of ghillies, keepers, and stalkers working in unison to have a sporting chance. It is a truly unique blend of camaraderie, collaboration, and solitude. There is no guarantee of success, but there is definitely a guarantee of challenge and adventure.

What Our Travellers Say
As we settle back into our routines, there is a smile as we conjure up fresh memories of Scottish highland magic. The many hours of stalking in the vast open beauty, or the endless casting for that elusive salmon on the peaceful rivers. I don’t know if you normally have a group composed of as many parts as ours, but the crew you put together really enjoyed each other’s company, making the down time and dinners extremely congenial and at times raucous. And the staff ? Well, I’ll never forget shooting my first stag with Finn; watching Emily take it down off the mountain by horse or receiving the incredibly patient Mungo’s help on the river. At the lodge, I initially wondered how I could live without my shower, now I wonder how I can make it without that hot, steaming bath before the delicious meals.
I could ramble on for quite some time, so I’ll cut to the chase here. Thank you Sean for tirelessly and ever patiently guiding us through the week and you Liz for all your behind the scenes effort!

I would also like to extend a most heartfelt thanks to Sean and Liz and the entire staff and team at the Amhuinnsuidhe estate. And to have shared the experience of the Macnab with the finest men and women I have ever met. It was truly a most humbling and exciting experience, and the pinnacle of my entire outdoor career.

MacNab ’22
Overall, a wonderful experience, and has wetted my desire to complete a MacNab in the future. From my first steps into the lodge, was like going back into the Edwardian period, accomodation, food, staff was first rate-everyone was so friendly and helpful. It was the most enriching lifetime experience. Sean did a great job as “conductor” conducting this eclectic group of individuals, who seemed never to be able to “quench their thirst!
